I thought I'd share with you today a little snap of our progress so far on the allotment in 2014. With the somewhat dire weather over the past 2 months, we hadn't ventured down to the plot since the end of the autumn - and to our surprise it's actually not too bad! Loads of plots around ours are still waterlogged following so much heavy rainfall and there are a lot less greenhouses standing due to the high winds *sad face*. However I did bump into some familiar faces and the lovely Sue & Jim next to us presented me with no less than 10 healthy little strawberry plants as they had too many! Yay!
So the big news is that we now have a greenhouse - following a gumtree find, AND it is coming along nicely as you can see up there! My wonderful and incredibly talented pal Gavin has pretty much single handedly worked out the entire thing, helping us create foundations, assemble the frame and soon....when we feel brave enough...glaze it!
I cannot wait to get myself stuck into some spring gardening, especially as being self-employed means I can take an hour out of my day to pop to the allotment and tend to our pretties! I've ordered a huge stock of heirloom seeds, especially tomatoes, as Jack & I love tomatoes more than anything. So hopefully we'll have some big red ones, cherries, orange beauties, yellow pear tomatoes, black tomatoes and stripy tigrella ones too!!
The potatoes are chitting, and the shallots and onions are ready to be popped into seed trays, it's all starting to get off to a good start!
I intend to really go for it this Summer as last year we took it on late into Spring and had to play catch up right away!! This was it when we took it on last year...
Anyway - as always, any tips for me or suggestions from you seasoned pros, or fellow newbies would be greatly appreciated!
Tomorrow I'll be sharing with you my recipe for a little homemade pizza, with chorizo & fennel!
