In this crafty update of the traditional boho style Dream Catcher we have used a lovely antique doily as the decorative net centre to give it a more modern- vintage look. We love a home made pom-pom at S+S as you already know so have used several as the hanging tail as well as on the hoop itself... here's hoping our dreams will be sweet and yarn filled!
You will need:
- a small embroidery hoop
- white acrylic paint + brush
- vintage lace doily
- smallest pom-pom maker
- coloured feathers and tassels (Our tassels are home made)
- white sewing cotton and needle
- pom-pom trim
Step 1 - Remove the inner hoop of your embroidery frame and paint with white acrylic.
Step 2 - Whilst hoop is drying why not have a go painting your feathers too!
Step 3 - thread your needle and double before sewing into the edge of your doily.
Step 4 - Placing your doily into the centre of your painted and now dry hoop, sew over and around its edge in an anti clockwise direction.
Step 5 - Pull the thread quite taught so that your doily stretches out to meet the hoop edges! Ours was exactly the right fit but this was a fluke tbh. The doily does not have to fit exactly there can be space but make sure it is not too big for the hoop or saggy when attached all the way around.
Step 6 - cut your pom-pom trim to size and glue onto the back edge of your hoop.
Step 7 - Next thread your needle with 0.5m length of thread and sew double through your first pom-pom. Next unthread needle and split your threads apart sewing one through one pom-pom to the left and the other to the right.
Step 8 - Repeat this on the left and right threads until you have 2 pom-poms on each side joined by the first at the bottom. Next attach to hoop by sewing into the pom-pom trim.
Step 9 - Once attached to the side of the hoop sew back down through the pom-pom below making the thread double. Repeat on both sides and then tie the two threads together to create a diamond between the bottom and first pom-poms. This will keep the triangle shape in plave when we hang our dream catcher up!
Step - 10 Sew tassels onto the doily and then glue any left over pom-poms onto the joining threads.
Step 11 - Lastly attach a length at the top of the hoop to hang your finished dream catcher up.
