Hello all,
Day three of this weeks mini {DIY}s - I'm actually enjoying getting back into being more creative and sharing some little tutorials. I still have SO many to try - my
boards are brimming with projects I've yet to start!
Anyway - today, in celebration of Spring
finally
arriving, or at least I hope it is, I thought I'd share some more allotment based updates and a little {DIY}. By the way, thank you for all of your tweets and comments of allotment based encouragement - it means a lot to me that I've got people spurring me on, because when its -3 degrees out and my gardening gloves are full of icy water - I need a little encouragement or I feel like just getting back into the car and driving home! So thank you - please continue!
Now a few weeks ago I picked up some tiny tomato, chilli and courgette seedlings. I've been watering them diligently, but until now I'd been too lazy, and then too poorly to actually pot them up - and, it turns out I had nothing even to pot them in!
So here's where a little brainwave occurred...I'd previously done a little {semi successful} DIY which I never published on paint dipped cans as pretty planters. I planted this really pretty narcissus that Jack's lovely mum got me for Christmas in one and it looked beautiful, but then once it flowered it died. Having made a rather relish tomato soup, which involved a few tins of tomatoes last night I decided to use the tins as little planters.
All you need is:
1//. a tin can or two
2//. a hammer
3//. a nail
4//. compost
5//. pebbles/gravel
6//. some seedlings!
All you need to do is:
* Rinse out your tins, turn them upside down and use your hammer and nail to bash a few holes in the base of each can for drainage.
* Fill the bottom of each tin with a little layer of gravel.
* Fill with compost & pop in your seeds/seedlings.
voila!
It's super easy, and I think it looks quite cute, especially when popped inside my little mini greenhouse to keep them warm!
If you're feeling fancy - like I was, then you can dip your cans in some paint pre potting, or use washi tape to give them a bit of colour!
xo.
